Dr. Feldstein replaced a totally dysfunctional knee of 30 years standing with a new one that is pain-free, strong, and flexible, immeasurably improving quality of life. I was on my feet on day one and climbing stairs the day after surgery; now I'm looking forward to the ski slopes and tennis court. Recovery has been quick and easy as far as total knee replacements go, with plenty of follow-up by both the doctor and his assistant. I had 2 knee surgeries on the same knee by the same Dr within 1 yr, I had no range of motion, and in pain constantly, I was referred to Dr. Michael Feldstein, known as the revision expert, and I now have full range of motion, there are no words to describe my gratitude, he is beyond 5 stars.

I visited Dr. Feldstein's office to get a left hip injection, based on my previously done X-ray. But Doc said, that I need to have MRI, because my X-ray is not clear enough to decide what makes more sense - injection first or skipping it, hip replacement right away. He has been a great communicator and provided trusted advisory.

Dr. Feldstein I call a miracle worker. In 2019 he’s did a major surgery (hip revision) to my hip replacement of 2011, which had failed. The diagnosis was missed for months, and I used a walker and was in terrific pain. Post the revision surgery by Dr. Feldstein I recovered and still work a full time job as a bedside RN. He literally gave me back my life. I was 76 at the time of surgery, and still going strong now at the age of 78. My gratitude knows no bounds. Every doctor I’ve spoken to in various departments knows his name and holds him in high esteem.

Dr. Fedstein replaced both of my hips in 2018 when I was 27 years old, and it was a life-changing experience. He took my pain seriously when no one else would. Dr. Feldstein took time to understand my lengthy hip history, understand the impact on my quality of life, and quickly make a plan to help. Amazing! I barely have a scar. Tibial Plateau Fracture. 5 hr surgery and although this is a tough fracture to recover from I am so pleased with my progress, his explanation and concern. I joined a FB group with people who suffered a similar fracture and I thank God for my Dr. Michael Feldstein. We are lucky to have access to such a fine, knowledge, competent surgeon. Dr. Feldstein is both a "master" and humane practitioner----in the classical senses of both terms. His articulateness and careful post-surgical follow-through are superb. Suffered the last 2 years with Osteoarthritis, to the point I struggled to walk half a block using a cane, could not do the simple task of tying my shoelace or getting in and out of the car without the sharp pain in the right hip joint. I met Dr. Feldstein, after being examined by him, we scheduled surgery shortly after, treated me with a complete right hip replacement. After the surgery, it was life-changing immediately, no hip pain, just the general discomfort of having surgery around the thigh muscle, like getting a Charlie horse in the quad muscle, which was nothing compared to the hip pain I was experiencing. My only regret is that I did not have this surgery much sooner. Dr. Feldstein's staff described what to expect during recovery and they were spot on. 12 weeks after surgery, I am pain-free and doing the activities I love doing, with gradual increments of course. I can honestly say Dr. Feldstein is my HERO!!! Forever grateful for giving me back my life without pain.

His office is very efficient…from scheduling to follow through…reminders…MRI Insurance Assistance and scheduling. Dr, Michael Feldstein had a caring bedside manner and explained well and listened attentively. More importantly when I asked for a Referral to another doctor who could help me with my Osteoporosis…he called me personally the following day…WOW!

Dr. Feldstein replaced both of my hips a couple of years ago and I had a very good experience from the pre-opt consultations to the surgery. I had excellent results on both hips and he was quick to respond to any post-surgery questions. I had planned to have Dr. Feldstein replace my left knee but unfortunately he left Kaiser before I could get it scheduled.

Dr. Feldstein did a wonderful job with both my right, and then left, total hip replacements. Each surgery went like clockwork in the OR and the recovery went extremely well in both cases. (Note: this was through Kaiser in SF...) The in-home follow-up health care guy commented in both cases that the surgical area, wound, and results struck him as particularly excellent. Dr. Feldstein was always quite busy and in demand, but nevertheless responded professionally to a couple of my emails. As an aging athlete, I appreciated in my office visits that he was also an athlete with the mindset of getting me back out on the courts with two very useful new hips.

If you need a knee replacement and have the opportunity to work with Dr. Feldstein, do so! He is a skilled surgeon who takes a total care/comprehensive approach with his patients, including understanding and supporting their goals following surgery. He replaced my right knee in September 2020 and my left knee about 3 months later. I ran into some rough patches (both physical and emotional) following the second TKR, and Dr. Feldstein successfully coached me through them, encouraging me throughout not to lose sight of my goal to return to the Sierra ski slopes. I am very grateful that I met him, had him as my surgeon, and I recommend him without reservation to anyone considering a TKR.

Dr. Feldstein replaced my right Hip in November 2018 at Kaiser hospital in SF. I am a very interactive patient, had lots of questions pre and post-op. He took time to listen and respond with candor and respect. He had put together an empowered, highly competent team and they functioned as a well-oiled machine. If you're in need of a hip replacement, use this surgeon! Simply outstanding with procedure and follow-up. He did a hip replacement on me when he was at Kaiser and it went so smoothly that I walked out of the hospital later that same day pain-free! Healing was amazingly quick. You won't be disappointed!

Dr. Feldstein did an amazing job on my left knee replacement. I've had juvenile rheumatoid arthritis since age 8, so by age 40, I had already had my right knee replaced, and it was time for the left. Because of my many years with JRA, my knees were "special" and required an individualized approach. Dr. Feldstein was confident, kind, caring, and professional. I felt he truly cared about helping me have a better life. He did a fantastic job on the surgery. My recovery went well, and I'm now walking farther and with less pain than I have in at least 15 years. I'm very sad to hear that Dr. Feldstein is leaving Kaiser; if I need revision work on either of my knees in the future, I will see if I'm able to juggle my insurance so that Dr. Feldstein can do the work. I highly recommend Dr. Feldstein if you are looking for a knee replacement surgeon, especially if you have factors that make your case at all "unusual."

Dr. Feldstein performed two hip replacement surgeries (separately) at Kaiser. After having lived with severe pain for so many years, both surgeries went extremely well, I recovered quickly and am pain-free. It has made all the difference. I highly recommend him.

Dr. Feldstein did my knee replacement (great work! Over four years later, I’m grateful every day for my ability to continue bicycling and aikido practice in my mid-70’s). Dr. Feldstein was fantastic for both of my total hip replacements, left and right. Dr. Feldstein was personable and explained my procedures such that a layperson could easily follow. He was available for in-person or online meetings and communication, as I needed. He was there for me every step of the way! My new hips are great and I feel like a person again, now that I am on my way to getting back to activities I used to enjoy. I feel very lucky to have had Dr. Feldstein as my surgeon.

Despite risk factors that caused other surgeons to decline replacing my hip, Dr. Feldstein did it successfully w/o any post-op complications and a relatively short recovery period for a 73 year old male with 4 serious risk factors. Could not have chosen a better doctor for this.

Dr. Feldstein helped me through a challenging recovery after he replaced my left hip. The hip works fine today, and I have returned to activities I love: rowing, walking, and sitting comfortably(!). Dr. Feldstein went out of his way to contact other doctors and provide his thoughts on my situation, supporting the conclusion of a PT that I hired on my own. Dr. Feldstein supported the diagnostic injection that confirmed the actual problem, despite hesitancy by other doctors who were on a different path. Feldstein called me late in the evening and talked with me for an hour when I was deep in depression about the pain and situation. Dr. Feldstein and I have continued to talk, and he is realistic and honest that all surgeries are not perfect and also post surgery issues can arise (in my case probably due to a fall and too much eagerness to get active...) He acknowledges the challenges that he and all doctors face, does not blame, helps explain, and stays open and positive.

Dr. Feldstein is a gifted surgeon and truly cares for his patients. My knee replacement was at least 5 years overdue. To say the least, I was a train wreck. He skillfully straighten my extremely bowed leg and restored function I had not seen in years. Due to the very poor pre-op condition of my knee my recovery was slow but he was always there for me to guide my recovery. The Physical Therapy he recommended help immeasurable. Dr. Michael Feldstein is technically a meticulous surgeon. In addition he is patient in answering all your questions, listens and "hears" you. He provides visual aids to help you understand your procedure; in my case the hardware for an artificial hip. It's been a pain- free four years since my surgery and I have been extremely happy with it and him. He is a very kind and caring Doctor person.

My hip surgery has made such a major and positive improvement in my quality of life. I was walking with a cane prior to surgery, unable to do most normal activities. After surgery, I walk five miles three or four days a week, I'm working again, and I'm able to keep up with housework, garden chores, so on. Dr. Feldstein and his team are kind and considerate, and responded to my (many) questions quickly and courteously, no matter how silly they may have seemed. If I had to do this again, Dr. Feldstein would be my go-to. I recommend him highly.

Dr. Feldstein is surely the top surgeon at Kaiser for knee replacement surgery. I am now eight weeks into recovery. I was weight-bearing almost immediately and was able to take walks within a few days. Since he also does revision surgery, he's seen it all including surgical mistakes to avoid. He requested full lower extremity x-rays pre-op and saw that my broken leg from forty years prior had healed with substantial lateral displacement. He was able to do my TKR bringing my whole leg and body into alignment. Great surgeon!

Excellent surgeon and brilliant doctor. Fixed my hip so I can exercise and practice martial arts without restrictions. Dr. Feldstein also operated on my friends knees and hips with excellent result. If you need a joint replacement he is a definitely doctor to go to.

Dr. Feldstein is an excellent surgeon and experienced in the anterior method. He did my full hip replacement in 2017 by anterior method. Recovery was immediate, I was pain-free when I woke up, and full recovery was less than a week. The incision was approx 1.5 inches and I now literally have no scar. I have had no problems 4 years later. I need my left hip replaced and I will not let another surgeon touch me, I will only have Dr. Feldstein do the surgery using the anterior method.

Dr Michael J. Feldstein, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU. I’d suffered with my right knee bone on bone for a great many years to the point that it was too painful to walk more than a few steps. Visits to other orthopedic docs at Kaiser left me afraid to do the surgery. Dr. Feldstein was the only one with confident answers to my questions. I felt he cared and knew what he was doing. After the total knee replacement I can walk and dance again! I find myself saying Thank You every time I go for a walk. I’m so sorry to hear that he’ll be leaving Kaiser to work at St. Mary’s. If I ever need my other knee replaced, or a hip, I’m changing insurance.

Dr. Feldstein is the most thorough and caring Doctor I have seen at Kaiser. He explained my test results and showed me my X-rays and MRI results. He examined my knee pain and in so doing diagnosed bursitis, which had been causing my pain and completely overlooked by two other doctors. He prescribed the correct medication for my condition and ordered a hip X-ray for my 13-year-old artificial hip. I feel correctly diagnosed and in good care with this extraordinary Doctor.

Dr. Feldstein is an excellent surgeon. At 4 months post-op for a hip replacement, I’m back to walking and hiking several miles per day. The incision scar has healed well, and my pain has gone away. I am impressed by his skill and expertise.

As I was awaiting my hip replacement surgery with Dr. Feldstein I kept hearing from other Kaiser staff about how happy his patients were with their outcomes. I did not know then that his anterior technique (frontal, along the bikini line) was unique at Kaiser (2021). Count me a member now of his fan club. Post surgery I could do my PT without fear of stressing the incision, and at just two months I was able to rejoin my yoga class—carefully but safely. Everyone was astonished. Three other members of my class have had hip replacements, each with a non-frontal incision. All of them reported a much slower recovery than mine, and years later they still experience some limiting effects. Now add to this Dr. Feldstein's upbeat, patient-friendly manner, which is not common in the world of get-down-business, taciturn surgeons, and you have a rare person to help you.

Dr. Feldstein has been a miracle doctor for me. He has repaired my hip and my femur to be as good as new. He is kind and helpful and I would highly recommend him. He is an asset to any hospital he works with. I am very sorry to see him leave Kaiser. I have no doubt he has a great future ahead.
